Christlike: The Courage of Faith

“Seeing people being tortured for the Gospel has not only strengthened my faith but has given me a new vitality.” Wakeup Project presents “Christlike: The Courage of Faith” in which the very protagonists of the persecution of faith in Christ share their experiences and show how the joy of bearing witness to Christ, who is alive, and His love for all men, including our persecutors, can transform darkness and destruction into light and hope for the world. Listen to the testimonies of those who have lived through persecution in Syria, Ukraine, Kenya, Yemen and Iraq, and dare to be filled with the strength of the witnesses with Wakeup Project.

“Pray a lot for me.”- Sr. Gloria Cecilia, Kidnapped Missionary

"WakeUp Project" presents Sr. Gloria Cecilia Narváez Argoti, missionary of the Franciscans of Mary Immaculate. She was kidnapped on February 7, 2017 from her congregation’s Mission home in Karangasso (Mali, Africa) by Jihadists associated with the Islamic State in Magreb. This exemplary missionary was not the one they had chosen to kidnap, but she saved the life of one of her Sisters, the youngest of the community, when she offered herself instead. In the different videos and posts sent out by her captors, she asks that we pray for her release and continued unwavering faith.
"WakeUp Project" doesn’t want her to be forgotten and above all, desires that we continue to pray for her. May the strength of the communion of saints maintain her heart continuously united to the Lord and sustain her through this difficult and extended trial. We invite you to make use of all our free prayer initiatives on our website: wakeup.eukmamie.org

Pierina Morosini. Martyr of Purity

“I would rather let myself be killed than commit a sin.” Those were the words of Pierina Morosini, an Italian girl, member of Catholic Action, deeply devoted to Jesus in the Eucharist and the Holy Rosary. Her admiration for St. Maria Goretti and her desire for holiness led her to imitate this “little saint” with her own martyrdom “in defensum castitatem” – in defense of her chastity – on April 4, 1957. Join the “Wake Up Project” in discovering Pierina Morosini, a young martyr of purity. It was St. John Paul II who put her as an example of faith and purity of heart for all youth.

Martyrs of Purity. In defensum castitatis

It was July 5, 1902 in a little Italian town called Nettuno. A young man harrassed and tried to take advantage of a an 11-year-old girl named Maria Goretti, who resisted courageously until he stabbed her to death. Shortly after, the Church recognized this young girl’s death as a true martyrdom with the title "in defensum castitatis." Following the footsteps of “Marietta,” many other young women have given their lives in defense of their purity: Antonia Messina, Pierina Morosini, Verónica Antal, Marta Obregón, Anna Kolesárová, Elena Spirgevičiūtė, Santa Scorese, Teresa Bracco and many more. The "Wake Up Project" presents to you this clip called Martyrs of Purity. In defensum castitatis so you can discover the beauty of these souls who, for love of Christ, defended their dignity as daughters of God, willing to pay the price of their own lives.

Elena Spirgevičiūtė: Martyr of Purity

Elena Spirgevičiūtė, a young Catholic from Kaunas, Lithuania, surrounded by the most aggressive communism and Nazism, hears one word resound inside of her: purity. She dies at nineteen years of age defending her honor as a woman and as a Christian. She is murdered at the hands of a communist police officer who will later be awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union. Yet the Servant of God, Elena Spirgevičiūtė, will become the symbol of honor of the Lithuanian people, of the Catholic Church and of the pure souls who guard their bodies as God’s temples. Be filled with the strength of the Martyrs of purity with the Wakeنp Project.

He is Alive

The “WakeUp Project” brings to you the experience of three Catholic priests (Fr. Jacques Mourad, Fr. Douglas Bazi, and Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, SDB) who, because of their loyalty to Christ and to His Church, suffered kidnapping and torturing at the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq, Syria and Yemen. Joy, hope and forgiveness (in the middle of true darkness) shine in the lives of these men who know and testify that “He is Alive.” Wake up and be proud of these witnesses to the faith along with “WakeUp Project.”

Precious in Your Sight: The Martyr Church

Because precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of those who give their life for Him each day (cf. Psalm 116), WakeUp Project would like to pay tribute to those who have suffered in order to confess their Faith or have been martyred because of the Name of Jesus and his Holy Church all over the world since the beginning of Christianity up until our 21st century. These confessors of the faith and recent martyrs have woken up entire nations with their cry of love for God and by shedding their blood in return for the Blood He shed and giving their lives in return of the Life He gave. Be proud to belong to this Church that loves to the end with WakeUp Project.
